Kitchen Extension W4

The houses on the Glebe estate extend beautifully and this property was no exception. What is less well known is that the drainage system in this area is extremely unusual and, in this case, we discovered that privately owned wastewater pipes for more properties than we could count converged both in the garden, and directly below where we needed to put our concrete foundations for the cantilevered extension. Working closely with Buildings Control and our in-house engineer, we created a significant series of trenches and miniature bridges involving no less than 17 small steel beams. Before concreting, the entire space looked like a scale model of a WW1 re-enactment. Of course, this would be the job where a renowned garden designer had been commissioned and the entire build area was re-levelled and adjusted to ensure that, as originally planned, there were absolutely no thresholds and just one step within the entire build area. Everyone was so happy with the end result that we put the garden on our home page.
