Kitchen extensions with a smaller footprint require a great deal of extra thought from both our team and the client because we must ensure that every possible requirement is built into a finite space. Builds like this are both challenging and hugely enjoyable. We all need to work that much harder to visualize both cooking and living in the space well in advance of even agreeing the position of the doors and windows, let alone fitting the kitchen. This was just one of those jobs and for a family that included a genuine cook as well.
These guys had been both thinking about and saving for their new kitchen for a long time and despite the compact size on completion there were literally no compromises. True Crittall steel doors and windows blended perfectly with two large custom made fixed glazed units set in a vaulted ceiling. A highly customised Howdens kitchen provided the storage and prep space for every pot, pan and spice jar and a custom-made banquette seat, hand upholstered in leather on site, finished off the dining area beautifully.
